ISLAMABAD, Sep 10 (APP): Minister for Water Resources Dr Musadik Malik on Tuesday informed the Senate that no changes had been made in the Indus River System Authority (IRSA) Act, 1992 as yet
Replying to a calling attention notice of Senators Sherry Rehman, Zamir Hussain Ghumro, Jam Saifullah Khan, Poonjo Bhel and Sarmad Ali regarding the “proposed changes in the IRSA Act, 1992″, he said the matter would be placed before the two Houses of the Parliament, and it would be their prerogative to take any decision.
Musadik said he had documents regarding the issue from the IRSA, which were signed by its all members, including Sindh’s member Ahsan Legahri.
He said the IRSA in its report had recommended steps to increase the efficiency of water flow while giving the technical opinion of the water flow.
According to a report, some 14.3 MAF water went downstream the Kotri Barrage last year and 18.73 MAF this year, he added.
He, however, stressed that there was a need for debate the House which should be evidence-based.
