ISLAMABAD, Oct 23 (APP):The Academic Council of Quaid-e-Azam University (QAU) in its 135th meeting has approved the Directorate of Distance and Open Learning, and the university to start distance education programs under which quality education will be provided through state-of-the-art Learning Management System (LMS).
The university will initially launch a number of programmes under this new initiative, said a press release issued here on Wednesday.
Vice Chancellor QAU, Prof Dr Niaz Ahmad Akhtar (S.I.) presided over the 135th Academic Council meeting. Dr Niaz highlighted the importance of such programs in the context of Pakistan’s demographic scenario. He said Pakistan, at present, is the fifth most populous country with a population of about 236 million and one of the highest rates of population growth globally. About 47 million people between the ages of 18 and 26 are in the primary age group for university education.
He said QAU, being the premier university of Pakistan, envisions providing access to quality higher education beyond the barriers of region, culture, economy or gender.
The Vice Chancellor said that distance education can be most effective for students who are unable to attend universities due to various reasons.
The session was attended by distinguished Deans, senior faculty members, Directors, Department Chairpersons, Heads of affiliated institutions, Principals, and senior administrative staff, reflecting the university’s commitment to academic excellence and collaborative decision-making.
